In honour of Tu B’Shvat 5785, we planted an Almond Tree at Mispor Gil. It was one of our ways to give thanks to Mitzpe Netufah, with its lovely people and scenic nature, as well as donating a tree from the Lindberg Peace Foundation, in honor of Professor Stendig-Lindberg, and her daughter Miriam Felicia Lindberg, Z”L.
Tu BiShevat (“the 15th of Shevat”) marks the beginning of a “New Year for Trees.” This is the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle.
During the tree planting ceremony, we spoke about the meaning of “Man is a tree of the field” (Deuteronomy 20:19) and reflected on the lessons we can derive from our botanical analogue.
For many years Gustawa Stendig-Lindberg (1926 – 2008) sponsored “Poetry for Peace” competitions worldwide, yet since her passing, we have dedicated the foundation work to also include art, music and tree planting. The trees planted have been for Jewish National Fund forests in Modi’in and the Galilee, Razim School in Safed, Glili School near Kibbutz Lavi, Jerusalem Hills, etc.
We hope that the people of Israel will enjoy this new Almond Tree, with its blossoms and eventually its almonds, as they are filled with the essential mineral magnesium. Gustawa Stendig-Lindberg (1926 – 2008), was also called “Professor Magnesium”. As both a Physician and a Scientist, she discovered the importance of magnesium intake into our diets, already in the 1960’s. We hope for people to appreciate and enjoy more magnesium filled foods and drinks.
